FREUD AND PSYCHOANALYSIS

FREUD AND PSYCHOANALYSIS
SHORT GLIMPSES OF PSYCHOANALYSIS (Summary)

Freud is the profounder of psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is a genetic theory of evolution of mind as a psyche apparatus. He presents three dynamic models of psychic apparatus. Dynamic model describes the conflict within the mind between the unconscious drive that strive for release, and the equally powerful forces of repression trying to keep the unconscious forces from being manifested. From this struggle emerge derivatives of the repressed material as symptoms of creativity in the arts and other civilization feet’s.
Further he presents economic model. It is the distribution and circulation of psychic energy. Freud calls it cathexis because the ideas are condensed and distributed within the human subjects. There is a certain quantifiable amount of institutional energy that most be variously distributed in order to maintain psychic balance. The another is about topographical where he talks about division of mind into three parts
a. The Sub-Conscious (the realm of perception, sensory apprehension of the external world)
b. The Conscious (Memory)
c. Unconscious (realm of the censored i.e. barred from conscious knowledge)
The next is the structural mode where he talks about the division of mind into 3 parts:-
a. Id (pleasure principle/ instinctual drives)
b. Ego(Sexual/ external reality) and
c. Super-ego (Parental and social institutional taboos)
Freud’s concept of psychosexuality depends on his understanding his libido or the available sexual energy which directs both human development and action. Thus notion of sexuality encompasses the entire range of human experience. Human experience is directed by the drive to achieve bodily and mental satisfaction or which is described under the pleasure principle but all satisfaction cannot be fulfilled so human minds censors the desires. This repression is creativity of mans action and works in the entire human civilization, its scientific and artistic development.
Freud’s postulation of infantile of the human infant organization into erogenous zones, which dominate at different stages in the Childs development. No identities form major stages in the organizations. The oral stage is which the infant derives mass pleasure from the mouth’s shocking and biting tit. The stage in which genital primary throws the child into Oedipus complex. The opposition of sexes is experienced as representation of folic and castrated position. Oedipus complex identifies the Childs desire for the parents of the opposite sex and a consequent rivalry with the parents of same sex. In this negative form the parent of the same sex is loved, while the parent of the opposite sex is identified as arrival.
Similarly he talks about dream. Dream is the product of Id because Id is always repressed so it takes form of dream while sleeping. The ego and super ego are less active but id is so active, so one sees dream. Fraud had derived dream into two parts: Latent and Manenfest. Latent is dream thought and manifest is when it is shown clearly. The dream appears into two ways: Condensation and Displacement, where condensation means joining two or three images in one and displacement means placing one element for another. Fraud says that Menefest dream is disguised dream where as latent is thought not exposed. Ego and super-ego guard id, suppressed desire. They cannot come in their original form. There is lack of sequence in dreams because of control of super-ego and ego. For Fraud an author’s work is an example of menefest dream. Author revels the psyche is the text: A reader studies the authors psyche.
